Northern Ireland Water improves at energy efficiency with Nereda
Water companies across the UK have committed to being carbon net zero by 2030. One of the biggest challenges in meeting this target is the energy efficiency of their plants and managing the high energy costs historically associated with wastewater treatment. Nereda technology from Royal HaskoningDHV offers excellent energy performance and provides comprehensive savings, which in turn, provide huge benefits to the customer in their ongoing journey to net zero.

About Northern Ireland Water
Northern Ireland Water is a Government Owned Company (GoCo), set up in April 2007 to provide water and sewage services in Northern Ireland. The company delivers clean, safe drinking water to approximately 840,000 households and businesses. It also collects approximately 330 million litres of wastewater per day – from around 669,000 households and organisations connected to the sewerage system – and transfers it to treatment plants, where it is treated and disposed of safely.

- Providing energy savings in the region of 560,000 KWh
- Savings of approximately £70,000 in two years compared to the original design.

- Effectively treats trade discharges and municipal wastewater
- Treats 75% of flows through the WWTP Excellent energy performance – 25% of the energy used throughout the site, despite taking 75% of the flow
- Energy savings in the region of 560,000 KWh over two years compared with the original design
- Energy cost savings of around £70,000 over two years compared with the original design.
